Password and Passphrase Protection
Password protection is imposed at two separate points within the Ergotest™ system.
1. User Login
Each user is required to log in to the web server to initialize any transactions against the Ergotest™ system. This includes all administrators, students, instructional designers, and anyone else who has access to your Ergotest™ server.2. Examination Download
There is also a unique identifying password associated with each test file. This password is randomly generated and provided to the student when they download the test from the web server. When the student takes the test using the offline Ergotest™ Proctor software, they are prompted to enter this password. If it doesn’t match, the student will not be allowed to take the test. This measure provides yet another layer of protection for your examination files.
Randomized Passphrases
Ergotest™ can also prompt for and store randomized identifying passphrases. Here’s
how it works: on registering with your institution’s Ergotest™ server, each user can
enter personalized answers to several different passphrases. These passphrases then appear at
randomized points within the examination, and the user must answer them successfully to proceed with
the test.
Examples of common passphrases include: What is your mother’s maiden name?; What is your
pet’s name?; or Where did you go on your last vacation? Randomized passphrases allow your
institution to consistently monitor each user’s identity throughout the
duration of their examination.
